Unique Snowy Engagement in Rascafría | Preboda en Rascafría

Madrid is one of those cities that doesn’t always make the top on “must see” cities in Spain, ’cause it doesn’t have the ocean, or warm weather all year round. BUT what you can expect from Madrid is all four seasons, including snow! If you think that Spain is just beaches and bikinis, then you have yet to explore the real wonders of the heart of Spain. That’s mostly why I want to share with you this photoshoot— a Unique snowy engagement in Rascafría| Preboda en Rascafría.

Rascafría Location Scouting

As a part of our job as photographers in Madrid, Jake and I actually location-scout! We love finding places that fit our couples perfectly. In this case, we searched for a bit until we found a beautiful, secluded hidden winter gem in Madrid. The perfect place for a unique snowy engagement in Rascafría!

Rascafría— Madrid’s Hidden Winter Wonderland

You might not believe me, but you only need to travel an hour out of Madrid city to find a snowy winter wonderland. In Rascafría, a small suburb town outside of Madrid city, you have mountainous woodlands with views of the entire Madrid community, which to me is perfect for a snowy winter engagement photoshoot. We took these photos at Puerto de la Morcuera, in Rascafria.

Preparing for Your Snowy Engagement Photoshoot in Rascafría

If you’ve recently gotten engaged, hurray! Now that you’re planning your winter engagement photoshoot, there are some things to consider when doing a photoshoot in the snow. Here’s our best tips for preparing and having success with our winter engagement sessions:

  1. Check the weather a week before. The snow lasts for about 4-6 weeks in the wintertime, so you have to keep an eye on the weather in Sierra de Madrid. For the best photos, you’ll want to go when the snow has freshly fallen, and the rain hasn’t wiped it all away.
  2. Be flexible with the day of your photoshoot due to the weather. In Rascafría and the surrounding areas in the mountains (Canencia, Navacerrada, Navafria), the weather can change from one day to the next. Be open to changing the day of your photoshoot, or at least have a back-up date to make sure you get those snowy photos.
  3. Bring stylish warm clothes. When styling for your photoshoot, make sure your outfits are warm. You’ll most likely be taking photos for around 1 hour, so take that into consideration!
  4. Bring gloves, hats, and extra socks for afterwards. There’s no such thing as being over-prepared! You’ll thank yourself for bringing hat and gloves for the in-between moments of taking photos and walking around. We also brought extra socks for feet because we knew we’d be knee-deep in snow!

Why Rascafría is the Perfect Place for Unique Snowy Engagement Photos

Now, we’ve all seen the typical engagement photos that can be corny sometimes, haven’t we? The trick to making your photos authentic and meaningful for you as a couple is incorporating things you love into the photoshoot! If you love champagne, then bring a bottle to share and get some photos of it! Bring your dog, or your favourite matching sweaters. Things like this will add so much meaning to your photos. Rascafría offers a breathtakingly natural outdoors setting for your snowy engagement photos— your friends and family will be blown away by how unique your engagement photos are!
