Madrid is one of those cities that doesn’t always make the top on “must see” cities in Spain, ’cause it doesn’t have the ocean, or warm weather all year round. BUT what you can expect from Madrid is that it is one of the most unique cities in all of Spain. You won’t find anything like it! If you think that Spain is just beaches and bikinis, then you have yet to explore the real wonders of the heart of Spain— downtown Madrid. That’s mostly why I want to share with you this photoshoot— a Fall Madrid Engagement Photoshoot.

Madrid Engagements in the Fall

As a part of our job as photographers in Madrid, Jake and I actually location-scout! We love finding places that fit our couples perfectly. In this case, we found a cute coffee shop and streets next to it so we could get everything this couple wanted in their photos. In autumn, the trees start to turn orange and the whole city starts to feel like fall. We like to suggest to our couples that they wear colours that match the city. In this case, this couple nailed their outfit!

Downtown Madrid

In downtown Madrid you have a ton of spots to hit up within walking distance. There’s just so much to see! For this engagement session in particular, we started at Plaza Mayor, which is a plaza where there’s always something going on. Then, we headed to the famous oldest churreria in all of Spain (called San Gines), walked around some cute streets and even stopped for coffee a cute coffee shop. After our little break, we caught the beautiful sunset near the Palacio Real and the Almudena cathedral. Check out the photos below!

Preparing for Your Fall Engagement Session in Madrid

If you’ve recently gotten engaged, hurray! Now that you’re planning your fall Madrid engagement photoshoot, there are some things to consider when doing a photoshoot in the Sierra of Madrid. Here’s our best tips for preparing and having success with our engagement sessions:

Plan for a good time of day. To beat the heat, the best times for photoshoots in Madrid is right before sunset. If you inquire with us, we’ll make sure to tell you the perfect time for you photoshoot depending exactly when it is. We’ll also want to check the weather before your photoshoot in order to make sure you’ve got clear skies for a beautiful sunset.
Wear comfortable shoes! You won’t regret this one! We usually walk quite a bit when doing photoshoots downtown— there’s just so much to see and take photos of! Bringing or wearing a pair of comfy shoes to at least walk from one place to another is something we always suggest.
Bring props, or something that represents you as a couple. We love to make each and every single photoshoot unique to you, so go ahead and bring that guitar, those hand-written vows, a picnic— we want to capture whatever you like doing most together.
An extra outfit! Downtown photoshoots are nice because we have the convenience of doing an outfit change so you get even more variety in your engagement photos!

Now, we’ve all seen the typical engagement photos that can be corny sometimes, haven’t we? Maybe you’re just not convinced of the typical “typical” engagement photos you’ve seen (some are a bit cringey). Why do we love Madrid so much? Because compared to the rest of Spain, it’s completely unique. Especially during fall, you’ll be able to get engagement photos that you won’t be able to find anywhere else— your friends and family will be blown away by how unique your photos are!
