The Costa Brava (the “wild coast“) is without a doubt one of the most beautiful coasts in Spain known for it’s rocky cliffs and rugged countryside. You’ve got the beach, incredible beach coastlines and villas used for wedding venues, and some of the best food in all of Spain.

What we love about Hostal de la Gavina in particular is that it’s just a 40-minute drive out of Girona city, and is literally situated right on the beach town of S’Aragó, which makes it super accessible and makes your life so much easier when it comes to transporting and accommodating your guests. That’s just on the practical side of things, though! This venue is absolutely one of the most gorgeous wedding venues in all Cataluña. Tips for Having Your Wedding at Hostal de la Gavina, Costa Brava

If you’re planning to have your wedding at Hostal de la Gavina, hurray! There are some things to consider when it comes to your photos at this specific wedding venue on the Costa Brava, and these are some tips we’ve noticed brings us success:

1. Do a first look (or many)! We always recommend to couples getting married here to do a first look. Hostal de la Gavina has so many gorgeous areas like the suites or the S’Aragó viewpoint that if you decide to do a first look, it will look amazing.
2. Have your ceremony later in the day, in the garden. If you want the best lighting and weather for your ceremony time, aim for later in the day. Midday is usually (depending on the season) the worst time because the sun is high and will cast ugly shadows on your faces! If you aim for anytime past 4pm, then you’ll be getting much nicer lighting for some beautiful ceremony photos!
3. Leave room in your schedule for at least 30 minutes of portrait photos on the property. Hostal de la Gavina has so much to offer for amazing wedding portrait photos! Make sure you schedule in enough time to make some portraits of just you two happen!

Seaside Wedding Ceremony at Hostal de la Gavina, Costa Brava

I’d love to show you how beautiful a ceremony can be at Hostal de la Gavina! This wedding venue is perfect for up to 300 guests (which you can accommodate for on site) and they don’t charge you a headcount if you have a smaller guests list. That’s why a lot of couples who are having destination weddings decide to go with Hostal de la Gavina for easy accommodation of guests who are travelling an most likely spending a couple nights.

This particular wedding ceremony was around 5pm in July. The groom enters, then the bride with her father. A prayer commences the ceremony, followed by the couple reading personal vows and then a sentimental speech by the officiant. To end the ceremony, the couple happily exits after exchanging rings! We were able to get some fun drone shots of the ceremony.

Wedding Cocktail on the Terrace with Sea Views

The cocktail, followed by the reception were held in two different spots— the cocktail on the hotel terrace balcony, and then the reception on the level below right beside it. Laura and José’s cocktail featured tapas galore, sangria, and a love music band to keep the mood lively and upbeat. During this time, we were able to get photos of the guests and also fly our drone to get some wedding portriats of just the two of them, and also some aerial shots of the venue and the guests as they mingled.

Hostal de la Gavina’s Outdoor Reception Area

A reception at Hostal de la Gavina can be held in different spaces, but since this wedding was in July and the weather was amazing, the couple opted for an outdoor table setting— and boy are we glad they did! The reception location transformed into absolute magic once the lighting and decoration were up! The couple entered the reception to their favorite song as the crowd cheered. These are the moments that literally feel magical. Even Jake and I had to pinch ourselves a couple times to make sure we weren’t dreaming!
